‘Its OK to talk’

As typical lawyers, bound to our desks, it is difficult to be out and about for good causes. What we can do, however, is offer our legal advice for free or reduced rates where we identify with the cause. One such cause is #Big22 which we came across via one of our more adventurous clients, Andy Elwood.

Andy is a search and rescue helicopter winch man, working on the coast and in the mountains picking up people like you and me who get into difficulty. One thing that people are not aware of is that the emergency staff themselves who are always so calm and reassuring to the victims, often suffer afterwards with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This suffering often goes unnoticed because they feel it is perhaps a weakness to admit to it. So Andy’s campaign #itsoktotalk is aimed at raising awareness of PTSD in the emergency services rather nicely nicknamed #999family. He challenges you to do 22 push ups with friends and family and upload a film of you doing it.

Check out Andy’s film here.

As a sailor and lover of the great outdoors, I always feel mightily reassured knowing that there are people prepared to come and rescue me should I need help and I think they need every support possible.  We donated to the cause with free legal advice to help his mission ( the team weren’t up for push-up’s !).
